The Chicago Bears received a frustrating update on the injury status of wide receiver Chase Claypool Sunday, as he was placed on the PUP list to start training camp. Bears fans didn’t seem too happy with the news. Some were unhappy with Claypool.
Chase Claypool’s status will be something to keep an eye on at training camp over the next few weeks. Looks like he’ll start on the PUP list. #Bears pic.twitter.com/NXrKzPwWmv

The Bears wanted to come into training camp with a fresh slate to turn around their 3-14 season in 2023. The Bears’ offense is expected to be more potent with a wide receiver corps of D.J. Moore, Darnell Mooney, and Claypool.
Claypool didn’t get off to a fast start in Chicago after the Bears traded for him at the deadline last season. Bears fans have been skeptical that Claypool will prove himself valuable enough on the field to demonstrate the 32nd pick in the 2023 draft was worth giving the Pittsburgh Steelers for him.
Claypool was targeted 29 times with the Bears last season. Of those 29 targets, Claypool caught the ball 14 times for 140 yards and no touchdowns. Former Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach and Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy thinks Claypool has improved this offseason in his knowledge of the offense.
Chicago Bears fans react to Chase Claypool’s update
Claypool must prove he can apply his knowledge of the offense on the field. Unfortunately, his soft-tissue injury has kept him sidelined for much of the offseason.
Some Bears fans are done being patient in waiting for Claypool to be back on the field. Others had more understanding opinions.
Here are the best takes on Twitter (while it’s still Twitter) of Bears fans reacting to Claypool being placed on the PUP list to start training camp.

He was physically unable to perform last year on the Bears active roster. I don’t see the difference really. https://t.co/E98eSsYVsP
