The Milwaukee Bucks have had Jrue Holiday on their roster since the 2020-2021 NBA season. NBA Analysis Network proposed a trade between them and the Los Angeles Clippers. James Piercey of NBA Analysis Network proposed a trade that would send Holiday to the Clippers, and the Bucks would acquire Norman Powell, Marcus Morris Sr., Amir Coffey, and a 2028 first-round pick from the Los Angeles Clippers.
NBA Mock Trade Sends Jrue Holiday To the Los Angeles Clippers
This would be a home run trade for the Clippers, but this would be a totally awkward trade for the Milwaukee Bucks. Milwaukee has no backup point guard to Jrue Holiday. If Holiday were to be shopped in a trade, they would have no playmaker, and there is no playmaker coming back in return for them.
Yes, Jrue Holiday is an older player, but there is no better option for them at point guard unless Giannis Antetokounmpo becomes the point forward. Holiday is 33 years old and averaged 19.3 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 7.4 APG a season ago. The Clippers are missing that third-option production outside of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. The only thing is that they are never healthy enough to be together for a championship run.
The Milwaukee Bucks should not trade away Jrue Holiday because of his value defensively, but James Piercey gave his reasoning why they should make this trade:
“Sure, the Bucks won their championship. Now, the goal is to win another one. At the moment, that’s looking like a lofty ambiton. The Bucks couldn’t even make it out of the first round of the NBA playoffs last year. Are we blaming Holiday? No. With that being said, his poor shooting has made him a questionable fit alongside Antetkounmpo at times. Meanwhile, Holiday is aging and locked into an expensive contract for a couple of more seasons. At the same time, the Bucks are low on draft capital. How will this team improve?”
Jrue Holiday Is a Part of the Milwaukee Bucks Core
When the Bucks core of Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday, and Giannis Antetokounmpo are all healthy together, they are very tough to beat. Yes, they won a title and haven’t been to the conference finals in the last two years, but that’s not because the chemistry isn’t there. Part of it is bad luck, and another could be age.
Norman Powell is 30 years old, Marcus Morris Sr. is 33 years old, and Paul Coffey is 26 years old. It is not like the Bucks would be getting much younger in this potential trade. Powell averaged 17.0 PPG, 2.9 RPG, and 1.8 APG last season with the Clippers. He could play the point guard role, but isn’t the distributor Jrue Holiday is.
Marcus Morris Sr. averaged 11.2 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 1.8 APG, and 0.3 BPG with Los Angeles. The Bucks already have a player on the roster who plays the Morris Sr. role, and that’s Bobby Portis Jr.
Amir Coffey averaged 3.4 PPG, 1.1 RPG, and 1.1 APG last season with the Los Angeles Clippers.
This is a trade that the Milwaukee Bucks should not make. It would be crazy for general manager Jon Horst to trade away a starting point guard. They will have enough trouble figuring out who will be Holiday’s backup point guard this season.
