NBA rumors: The Chicago Bulls are at an impasse. Their investment on their Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic Big 3 has not exactly paid off, and at this point, it isn’t surprising that the front office has begun becoming impatient with their lack of success. As such, their stars have been linked to potential trade scenarios throughout the offseason.
As it turns out, one team that attempted to make a move on Zach LaVine was the New York Knicks.
NBA Rumors: Knicks ‘Made Contact’ With Bulls for Potential Zach LaVine Trade
I speak in the past tense here because apparently, the deal appears to be dead at this point in time. NBA insider Fred Katz of The Athletic reports that the Knicks balked at Chicago’s asking price for the two-time All-Star when both sides went to the negotiating table:
“New York made contact with the Chicago Bulls about their shooting guard, Zach LaVine, but the asking price for the two-time All-Star was ‘giant,’ as one league source told The Athletic, which is exactly why LaVine remains in Chicago. The Knicks and Bulls, according to league sources, never got close,” Katz wrote.
The Bulls are obviously willing to part ways with LaVine, but they seem to have a much higher estimation of his market value as opposed to what rival teams are willing to offer. However, if they somehow decide to bring down their price, then the Knicks would probably be more than willing to renegotiate.
NBA Rumors: Are Bucks in the Mix for Zach LaVine?
Given the “giant” price tag the Bulls have slapped on Zach LaVine, it would be a complete shock if he ends up with the Milwaukee Bucks. The former UCLA standout is an explosive offensive threat, and I can see a scenario wherein he fits in well alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton. However, now that we know how much Chicago is asking for him, coupled with the fact that the Bucks simply do not have too many trade chips at their disposal, it would probably be safe to count Milwaukee out of the race for Zach LaVine.
