NBA News: The Milwaukee Bucks figure to have a similar roster going into the 2023 NBA season. Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez, and Jae Crowder are all expected to return. However, nothing is guaranteed in this league. Brook Lopez is even taking a visit with a Western Conference team. There will be one guard who won’t be returning to the Milwaukee Bucks this season, Jevon Carter.
Jevon Carter Signs Three-Year Deal With The Chicago Bulls (NBA News)
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski:
Free agent guard Jevon Carter has agreed on a three-year, $20 million deal with the Chicago Bulls, his agents Mark Bartelstein and Reggie Brown of Priority Sports tell ESPN. Carter leaves the Bucks to bring Bulls his perimeter toughness.
Although he’s on the smaller end at 6’2,” Carter plays way bigger as he’s a bulldog at the point of attack and was a key cog to the Milwaukee Bucks’ defense the past two seasons. According to Cleaning the Glass, Milwaukee was +2.7 points better in the minutes Carter was on the floor. He also held the opposition to a defRTG of 109.9. For context, Cleveland had the best defense in the league allowing 111 points per 100 possessions this past season.
Not only did Carter play in 81 games last season, but he also shot exactly 43% on his above the break and corner 3-point attempts alike. The Chicago Bulls certainly added to their depth at the guard position with this move.
Where Does This Leave The Milwaukee Bucks?
As far as point guards go, the Bucks are currently down to Jrue Holiday (the obvious starter) and Goran Dragic. Carter played significant minutes off the bench all season long for the Milwaukee Bucks, so they will likely have to find a back-up point guard somewhere to replenish their depth.
This move also opens up the door for the Bucks to re-sign Jae Crowder. A move that many have anticipated to happen over the last week or so.
