Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is known for many things, primarily his status as one of the best basketball players in the world. Additionally, Giannis is famous for his keen business acumen that has made him extraordinarily wealthy even outside of his salary with the Bucks.

Perhaps what endears him to fans the most, though, is his quirky sense of humor. He is known to regale media members with classic dad jokes following games and his social media profiles are filled with hilarious posts.

    Bucks news

Recently, Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis signed a three-year $186 million extension. That comes out to $62 million per season, though he will take home less than half of that amount due to playing in the state of California.

Earlier today, a sports business expert broke down how much money Davis will actually take home of his $62 million annual salary:

Anthony Davis just signed the NBA’s richest annual extension (3 years $186 million).

And the 𝘵𝘢𝘹𝘦𝘴 will be steep playing in LA: 🥴

    $62M: Salary
    –
    $22.9M: Federal Tax
    $6M: NBA Escrow
    $4.1M: Cali Tax
    $1.8M: Agent Fee
    $1.8M: Jock Tax
    $1.4M: FICA/Medicare

    $24M: Net Income pic.twitter.com/JhjrGjNWhC

$24 million is nothing to sneeze at, but it is still less than half of the $62 million annual salary. There are some familiar taxes in there, such as federal tax and FICA. However, people who are not NBA players may not be familiar with the others.

Giannis, of course, knows what all of these are because he has been in the NBA for going on 10 years. However, that did not stop him from playing oblivious and responding to the post in a hilarious way:

Who the hell is FICA and Jock can they hoop? https://t.co/2p72jRkpND

For those that do not know what the Jock Tax is, Sacramento Kings star De’Aaron Fox broke it down:

We get taxed in every city/state that we play in. So for example we play 41 home games plus 4 in LA and 2 in SF so 47 games taxed in California 🙃 Those 4 teams obviously get it the worst lol https://t.co/CSWEIGg3LE

    — De’Aaron Fox (@swipathefox) August 5, 2023

The state income tax is higher in California than in any of the other 49 states.

Earlier this NFL offseason, former Green Bay Packers tight end Marcedes Lewis made it clear that he would not follow Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets because of the high income taxes in New Jersey. Lewis has since signed with the Chicago Bears.

Obviously, Davis will not be hurting for money as $24 million in take-home pay is more money than most people see in their lifetime. It is interesting, though, that Giannis is keeping an eye on such things. With his free agency a couple of years away, no doubt he is weighing his options when it comes to where he can bring home the most money.

Remember, the Bucks can offer more than any other NBA team can, due to the collective bargaining agreement, so it is more than likely that he stays put.
