The Milwaukee Bucks have found a backup point guard that really seems to fit their style of play well in Kevin Porter Jr. What is more, he has been able to give them shot creation and playmaking off the bench, something that Milwaukee was seriously lacking before the trade deadline. Best of all, perhaps, is that the Bucks were able to acquire him for MarJon Beauchamp, who has since been released by the Los Angeles Clippers and signed by the New York Knicks.
However, Porter has a player option for the 2025-26 NBA season, which means that his return to Milwaukee is not within the team’s realm of control. And while Ryan Rollins‘ two-way contract was converted to a standard NBA deal, it was only for the remainder of this season.
In other words, it is possible that the Bucks will be in the market for a backup point guard once free agency starts this summer.
NBA Analyst Says the Milwaukee Bucks Are the Only Team that Could Sign Russell Westbrook Away from the Denver Nuggets

There will be plenty of options available on the free agent market if the Bucks find themselves in need of a veteran backup point guard. However, there will not be too many that they can afford.
One interesting possibility, though, is former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook, who is currently playing a two-year $6.7 million deal with the Denver Nuggets. The second season of his contract is a player option, meaning he could decline it after the season and sign elsewhere.
If that does happen, Fadeaway World believes that the Bucks are the only team that would give him a chance:
“If the Nuggets make the NBA Finals or come close to it, Westbrook will likely stay in Denver and go for one more round for a title. It is hard to see any other contenders outside of the Milwaukee Bucks giving Russ a chance considering he is 36 years old.”
While Westbrook was once a great player, he is now a journeyman bench point guard who has played for six different teams in seven years. While he can still create plays off of the bench, he is getting older, as is Milwaukee.
If the Bucks do find themselves in need of a backup for Damian Lillard, they will like go after someone younger. Additionally, it is hard to see Westbrook leaving the great situation he has for himself in Denver.
