The Milwaukee Bucks could call up an old friend, as they plan to strengthen their backcourt before the trade deadline ends.

Van Fayaz of SB Nation recently floated the idea of trading for Jevon Carter, who played for a year and change for the Milwaukee Bucks (2022-23), due to his familiarity with the organization and the Chicago Bulls‘ backcourt logjam.
“If you’ve been a Bucks fan since 2022, you know Carter well. During a year and change with the franchise, he was loved by fans for his 94-foot defense on opposing ballhandlers that earned him the Bulldog nickname, though maligned for his proclivity for pull-up threes in transition,” Fayaz wrote in his column.

“His is certainly a deal the Bulls would like to get off of, especially with Tre Jones joining an already overstuffed corps of Bulls point guards after Sunday’s Zach LaVine/De’Aaron Fox trade. Now even more superfluous, Carter is averaging just 6.5 MPG in 22 games, racking up 26 DNP-CDs. He appeared in 72 games last year, looking very little like he did in hunter green and cream. It’s fair to wonder if his Buck tenure was a flash in the pan, and/or he’s just no longer good,” he added.
Davion Mitchell and Jose Alvarado are listed as alternative trade targets for the Milwaukee Bucks
Fayaz also floated the idea of the Milwaukee Bucks going for New Orleans Pelicans’ Jose Alvarado and Toronto Raptors’ Davion Mitchell. Both players are solid perimeter defenders and are younger than Jevon Carter.

“While he’s not as much of a defensive playmaker that generates steals, he’s well-accustomed to guarding an opponent’s best backcourt player. This year, he’s started 22 games for the Raptors while Immanuel Quickley has been hurt. He’s in the final year of his rookie-scale contract and is eligible for restricted free agency this offseason,” Fayaz wrote about Mitchell.
“An on-ball menace, one might liken him to a smaller Jrue Holiday, though his game is more speed-oriented than strength. But he’s developed offensively throughout his four seasons in The Big Easy too, averaging a career-high in assists and 3P% (which has improved every season) in 2024–25,” he wrote about Alvarado.
