Compared to the New York Knicks, Miami Heat, and Indiana Pacers, the Milwaukee Bucks haven’t made a single trade yet. While the franchise has hired Doc Rivers as its new head coach, it seems a different route will be taken before the NBA trade deadline expires.
At this point in time, it looks like getting a major addition to Milwaukee’s roster is harder than it seems. The Bucks have already made a big swing during the offseason when it traded Jrue Holiday away to create an All-Star duo of Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
This pairing helped the team clinch a second seed in the Eastern Conference just a few weeks ago. But ever since the firing of Adrian Griffin and installing Doc Rivers as the new head coach, the team has won only one game and lost four to different squads in the Western Conference.
Milwaukee Bucks Bare Plan To Acquire Draft Capital Before the NBA Trade Deadline Expires
With the pressure setting in, the front office is already coming up with plans to improve before the trade deadline passes. Jake Fischer shares the likeliest route Milwaukee will take in the coming days in an article written for Yahoo Sports:
“The Bucks, along with the Sixers, are among several teams that have contacted the likes of New Orleans and Oklahoma City, sources said, attempting to trade future first-round pick swaps or packages of second-round picks to acquire extra first-round selections. Phoenix, you may recall, dealt two future first-round swaps (2024 and 2030) to Memphis for three seconds before this season began. Now it seems like several teams are trying to deal those same assets for an even more meaningful return,” Fisher wrote.
This move looks like a backup plan to acquire young talent in the future should the team’s current iteration fail. How the Bucks will navigate the upcoming NBA trade deadline remains to be seen, especially if the current lineup fails to make a meaningful run in the playoffs.
