There have been a ton of NBA rumors surrounding the Milwaukee Bucks of late, with the bigger headlines focused on the NBA free agency situations of the likes of Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez. This is quite understandable considering how both players have been integral to Milwaukee’s success through the years, and losing either of them (or both?) would be a significant blow to the team.
Be that as it may, the Bucks also have other personnel decisions that need to be addressed outside of Middleton and Lopez. One of them is backup point guard Jevon Carter, who could now be headed out of Milwaukee in free agency.
Jevon Carter Has Drawn Interest From The Lakers
After having the best year of his career this past season with the Bucks, Carter decided to test the waters of NBA free agency by declining his player option for 2023-24. He was supposed to pocket a guaranteed $2.2 million from the Bucks this coming season, but it seems that Carter believes he could get a better deal.
In 81 games played for Milwaukee last term (he started 39 of them), Jevon Carter produced career-high marks in points (8.0), rebounds (2.5), three-pointers made (1.2), and minutes played (22.3).
He could be right. According to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Carter has now piqued the interest of none other than the Los Angeles Lakers. This could complicate things for the Bucks if they want to retain the services of Carter by re-negotiating a new deal. With the Lakers now in the mix, it’s possible that Milwaukee is forced to table a better offer or run the risk of getting priced out.
Lakers See Jevon Carter As Potential Dennis Schroder Replacement
To be clear, though, it’s not as if the Lakers will move heaven and earth to get their hands on Carter. They are reportedly interested in the 27-year-old, but only if their original plans fall apart.
According to Scotto, LA’s top priority will still be to re-sign Dennis Schroder, but with the German veteran emerging as a flight risk in free agency, the Lakers are keeping their bases covered. Another player that has been heavily linked to a move to Hollywood is Denver Nuggets guard Bruce Brown. He too is going to be a free agent, and according to NBA rumors, it seems that the Lakers are prioritizing him as well.
Apart from Carter, LA also has some other guards on their radar. This includes Shake Milton of the Philadelphia 76ers and Cory Joseph of the Detroit Pistons. The Lakers obviously have a handful of other alternatives available, but they also seem intent on having a long look at Jevon Carter as a potential summer recruit.
