The Milwaukee Bucks have less than a week to figure out what they are going to do with the roster for the remainder of the 2024-2025 NBA season. They are 26-19 and in fourth place in the Eastern Conference at the moment.
General manager Jon Horst has some critical decisions to make that may not only affect the team for this season but potentially for years to come. The only two players on the roster this year who will not be traded are Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Anyone else on the roster could be potentially traded by next Thursday, February 6 also.
Clutch Points Writer Brett Siegel Has the Milwaukee Bucks Acquiring Jimmy Butler In a Blockbuster Three-Team Trade
Clutchpoints.com writer Brett Siegel wrote about different potential trade scenarios for Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler before next Thursday’s trade deadline. One of the trades that he created was a three-team between the Miami Heat, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Detroit Pistons.
Milwaukee would acquire Jimmy Butler and Alec Burks. Miami would acquire Khris Middleton, Bobby Portis, and a Milwaukee Bucks first-round pick (Top-5 protected). Detroit would acquire Pat Connaughton, MarJon Beauchamp, and a 2031 second-round pick from the Bucks.
In this trade, they would be able to get rid of Middleton, Portis, and Connaughton. Those were three players on the roster who were rumored to get traded this past offseason. Siegel also said about this potential trade:
“Along with the Suns, the other team that has been brought up several times as a possible suitor for Butler has been the Milwaukee Bucks.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard have proven they are good enough to win a championship. These two led the Bucks to win the NBA Cup in December, but the rest of this roster has become a concern. This is especially true when looking at Khris Middleton and his production as of late.
While he was once an All-Star and one of the best wing players in the league, recent injury concerns have really dampened Middleton’s overall production. That is why the Bucks are showing a lot more willingness to part ways with the long-time veteran ahead of the trade deadline to improve their championship outlook.
The only problem is that finding a new home for Middleton with his value depreciating like crazy will be extremely difficult.
For the Bucks to even consider a trade for Butler, they will first need to move out of the second apron by trading Pat Connaughton to a team willing to take on his contract. Both the Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets have been rumored to be open to this possibility if Milwaukee is to look to trade Connaughton before the trade deadline.”
It will be interesting to see which avenues the Milwaukee Bucks will explore before the NBA trade deadline. This is certainly one avenue they can explore, but would Jimmy Butler be too much of a headache to deal with? He may not be the best fit with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard.
Butler is a very talented player. This season with the Miami Heat, he has averaged 17.0 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 4.0 APG, along with shooting 54.0% from the field.
Other Suitors
There is no question that Jimmy Butler will have suitors other than the Milwaukee Bucks. Some other teams to watch for in the Butler sweepstakes will be the Phoenix Suns, the Golden State Warriors, and the Houston Rockets. It will be interesting to see if the Miami Heat will trade him or if they will hang onto him.
Butler has played for many different NBA teams throughout his career. Even though he is a talented player, Jimmy Butler has never won an NBA championship in his career and some teams better be careful to not overpay for him and that includes the Milwaukee Bucks as well.
