The Milwaukee Bucks, to the surprise of very few, signed small forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo to a one-year $2.9 million contract over the weekend. Of course, this was expected given the fact that he is Giannis Antetokounmpo is his younger brother, and that Thanasis’ last five seasons in the NBA were spent in Milwaukee.
He had missed the entire 2024-25 NBA season due to a torn Achilles, but was frequently seen at Bucks games cheering his brother and former teammates on.
The move, however, indicates that someone already on Milwaukee’s roster is going to be moved. The Bucks currently have more guaranteed contracts than the 15 roster spots each NBA team is allowed, so a change is going to have to be made.
And one former Bucks player is a little salty that he is not getting the Thanasis treatment.
Former Milwaukee Bucks point guard Jeff Teague wishes he was Giannis Antetokounmpo’s friend

Former Bucks point guard Jeff Teague was acquired by Milwaukee in a mid-season signing during the 2020-21 season, the year that they won the franchise’s first NBA title in 50 seasons. Teague did not play much for the Bucks that year, averaging 6.6 points and 2.8 assists while playing 15.9 minutes per game (21 games).
It was the last time Teague appeared in the NBA, and it seems like he would like be on a roster somewhere.
During a recent podcast appearance, he said of Thanasis re-signing with Milwaukee, “He’s playing with a different deck of cards, I should have been Giannis friend.”
And Bucks fans did not take too kindly to those comments:
No. You should have been cheering instead of pouting on the bench and praying on the downfall of your teammates like a BIYATCHHH. https://t.co/R80q5UjwKy

why does the team that I’ve constantly trashed not like me? https://t.co/CTLeVt5Egb

Teague got a free ring because of Giannis. Shut up clown https://t.co/xeLpR1B2cE

Didn’t Giannis win you a ring? What else do you want?! https://t.co/hHjWm3bnkR

Teague has gone on record before saying that he did not think the Bucks should have won the title in 2021, and has constantly said negative things about the organization, making him an easy target for Milwaukee fans on social media.
His comments above, too, seem to indicate that he believes Giannis and the Bucks are committing some kind of nepotism by having Thanasis on the roster.
But as some fans indicate above, if Teague had been a better teammate, perhaps Milwaukee would have wanted him back too.
