The Milwaukee Bucks snapped their two-game winning streak with a gutsy 118-113 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday afternoon. It was far from a clean game, with Milwaukee committing 16 turnovers. However, the efforts of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bobby Portis, and Gary Trent Jr. kept the Bucks in the game and, eventually, gave them the victory.
Giannis, the NBA’s leading scorer this year, finished with 34 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, a steal, and three blocks. Portis had a season-high 23 points while shooting 9-10 from the field. He also had six rebounds, an assist, a steal, and three blocks. Trent had 20 points on 6-10 shooting.

As mentioned previously, Portis had three blocked shots in the Bucks’ win over the Nets to go along with his 23 points. He also was 5-5 from three. It was the second game in his career in which he notched at least three blocked shots while going perfect from beyond the arc with at least five attempts.
He is the only player in NBA history to accomplish that feat twice:

For much of the season, Portis has been highly criticized by fans for his poor defense and questionable shooting decisions. However, he played on a high level on both ends of the court on Sunday, showing everyone just how valuable a player he is to a team with NBA Championship aspirations.

Needless to say, after Portis’ brilliant performance against Brooklyn, Bucks fans were cautiously full of praise for the perennial Sixth Man of the Year candidate:

As one can see, fans did not take Portis’ performance for granted. Indeed, he was brilliant (overall) both offensively and defensively.
The key will be for him to continue that kind of effort, especially on defense. No one expects him to shoot 90% from the field in every game. But he has to continue to take smart shots and show effort defensively.
Good things happen when he does.
