When the Milwaukee Bucks played against the Charlotte Hornets last Wednesday, there was a noticeable absence on the team since Khris Middleton is no longer around. The 33-year-old swingman was recently traded to the Washington Wizards in exchange essentially for Kyle Kuzma.
Bobby Portis, who returned from a six-game absence while tending to a personal matter, was among those who felt the huge void in the locker room. The 29-year-old forward went on to pay tribute to his former teammate.
“He’s always prepared to perform. Obviously injuries are a part of the game you can’t really control when that’s gonna happen, but through and through, a pro’s pro, champion. Just the way that he leads, especially my first couple years on the team, especially in the Finals,” Portis said via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
“One thing that won’t be forgotten is, you know, his game, who he is as a person and I’m pretty sure one day his jersey is gonna be retired by the bucks. Pretty positive that will happen. Just a great overall career for the Bucks and just wish him continued success throughout his career. Always gonna keep in touch with him. My bro. Been with him the last five years,” he added.
Bobby Portis is back with a bang for the Milwaukee Bucks
Bobby Portis was thrust into the starting lineup against the Charlotte Hornets because Giannis Antetokounmpo was a late scratch due to a calf injury. In the 112-102 victory, he put up 23 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks on 10-for-21 shooting from the field.
This is only the second time Portis has recorded at least 20 points and 15 rebounds this season. Portis could start again if Antetokounmpo is ruled out later against the Atlanta Hawks.
Portis averages 13.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.0 assists on 46.6 percent shooting from the field in 42 games (six starts) this year.
