The Milwaukee Bucks played its second preseason game on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite the 107-102 preseason loss for Milwaukee against Los Angeles, Bobby Portis Jr. is already in mid-season form for the Bucks.
He was the Sixth Man of the Year Finalist a season ago. Naz Reid of the Minnesota Timberwolves won the award. However, Portis Jr. is one of the most important players on the Bucks team entering the 2024-2025 season.
Bobby Portis Jr. Leads Milwaukee Bucks In Scoring During Preseason Game Against the Los Angeles Lakers
During the preseason game on Thursday, Bobby Portis Jr. led the Bucks with 23 points and he also grabbed three rebounds and recorded one assist. Portis Jr. made his first four three-point shots off the bench and he appears to be ready to go for the 2024-2025 NBA season.
Head Coach Doc Rivers said to Eric Nehm of The Athletic about Bobby Portis Jr. after the game by saying:
“I love how we play Bobby. Like, he knows it coming in. Vinnie Johnson or whoever else you want to name, the great guys coming off the bench that ‘we’re going to you.’ Be responsible with it. He made a couple of good passes, too. But we want him to be aggressive.”
Portis Jr. fits his role perfectly with this basketball team. It will be interesting to see if he would be inserted into the starting lineup if Khris Middleton is not ready for the 2024-2025 season. The starters on Thursday night were Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, Tauren Prince, Gary Trent Jr., and Brook Lopez.
Trade Rumors This Offseason
One of the things Portis Jr. had to deal with this offseason was trade rumors. Many people thought that the Milwaukee Bucks were going to trade him, but it never happened. A lot of Bucks fans love him and hopefully, he will have another big year for them off the bench.
Other than Bobby Portis Jr. off the bench, they will need other players to step up off the bench this season. He is no doubt ready to be even better during the 2024-2025 NBA season.
