Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis is campaigning for AJ Green to be picked as one of the competitors for the upcoming three-point shooting contest in this season’s NBA All-Star Weekend on February 15.
Portis knows that Green may not be picked because he is not yet a household name, but the 25-year-old guard deserves it since he is one of the league’s best three-point shooters. The voting for the league’s annual showcase has already opened last week.
“He’s for sure deserving. Dynamic shooter. More than a shooter, too, but just being able to come in and change the game, knocking down shots, provide spacing for other guys on the court,” Portis said about Green via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I feel like he makes at least 2 threes every game. So that has to account for something.”
“Obviously he’s always been a confident player but this year is different – his minutes are up, more responsibility with the team, kind of relying on him to make shots every game. I know he’s not the most popular player but if you watch our games you know his impact on what he brings to the team,” he added.
AJ Green’s stats with the Milwaukee Bucks this season
AJ Green emerged as a key rotational player for the Milwaukee Bucks this year. The 25-year-old swingman averages 7.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 21.4 minutes per game across 27 appearances (four starts).
According to NBA.com, AJ Green is one of the league’s leaders in three-point percentage, placing 11th at 44.9 percent. He also is joint-46th in the league with 62 three-pointers made, putting him in the company of De’Aaron Fox, Cade Cunningham, Dennis Schroder, and Donte DiVincenzo.
A spot has already been reserved for Damian Lillard, and it would be a cool moment for AJ Green if he competed against his Milwaukee Bucks teammate in the three-point shootout in February.
