The Milwaukee Brewers have a plethora of talented outfielders. Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick, and Joey Wiemer have all graduate out of prospect status, Blake Perkins made a significant impact defensively during his rookie season, top prospect Jackson Chourio was just locked up to a historic long term contact extension, and Christian Yelich plus Tyrone Taylor are the veterans of the group.
This log jam of outfielders is a unique situation in which there are not enough lineup spots to get all of these players consistent at-bats and playing time. Sure injuries happen in which a season ago Garret Mitchell missed substantial time after shoulder surgery and Sal Frelick’s MLB debut may have been delayed due to a thumb injury requiring surgery, but it may be wise for the Brewers to at least consider parting ways with some of these talented players.
According to Jon Heyman’s reporting from Winter Meetings, the Milwaukee Brewers are fielding offers on their plethora of talented outfielders.
In a report Jon Heyman revealed that the Brewers are responding to offers surrounding some of their outfielders. Jackson Chourio’s big contract played a big role in their market heating up because despite Brewers management saying that he will have to earn a 2024 opening day roster spot there is an expectation that he will be in the lineup to begin the new season.
If Milwaukee is fielding offers on their outfielders they could look to address other areas of need in exchange. Corner infield seems to be their most glaring offensive hole in need of addressing. They traded for first baseman Jake Bauers earlier this off-season and third baseman Andruw Monasterio is looking build upon a strong rookie campaign, but outside of that Tyler Black is the only other internal prospect that could make an impact in 2024 because top 2023 draft picks Brock Wilken and Mike Boeve likely won’t see the big league field next year.

It will be interesting to see if any particular outfielder gets mentioned in trade rumors more than another. Jon Heyman indicated that “the Brewers like Sal Frelick” but he otherwise did not disclose which players are being targeted by opposing teams.
