The Milwaukee Brewers are 61-42 and hold a one-game lead over the Chicago Cubs for first place in the National League Central Division. Following their recent 11-game winning streak, though, Milwaukee has dropped two of their last three games, the most recent their 5-1 loss to the Miami Marlins on Friday night.
Over their past few games, the Brewers offense has struggled to score early, and even get on base against opposing starting pitchers that, frankly, should not be dominating Milwaukee the way that they have. Cal Quantrill, for example, who dominated Brewers hitters early in their most recent loss, entered play with a 5.40 ERA.
He ended up throwing five innings of one-run ball, allowing just three hits, no walks, and striking out four.
Thankfully, Milwaukee’s offense should get a boost going forward as their leadoff hitter is returning from the 10-day injured list.
Milwaukee Brewers Gold Glove Right Fielder Sal Frelick Has Been Activated, Tyler Black Sent Down

On Saturday afternoon, it was announced by the team that they were activating Gold Glove right fielder and leadoff hitter Sal Frelick from the 10-day injured list. To make room for him on the roster, Milwaukee sent first baseman Tyler Black back down to Triple-A:

Black was hitting .333/.500/.500 during his brief callup during Frelick’s absence.
Frelick previously suffered a grade-one hamstring strain during Milwaukee’s homestand against the Washington Nationals prior to the 2025 MLB All-Star break. The team had hoped the four-day break for the All-Star festivities would be enough time for him to heal, but it was not.
He had been placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to July 15.
Frelick is hitting .294/.354/.404 with seven home runs and 39 RBI to go with 17 stolen bases this year. As the leadoff hitter, though, he is hitting .299/.345/.433 with four home runs and 19 RBI.
Contrastingly, Brice Turang has hit .254/.327/.325 as Milwaukee’s leadoff hitter, but .333/.400/.417 when hitting seventh, which is where he is slated for Game Two of the Brewers’ current series against the Marlins.
Jackson Chourio, who has also hit leadoff some in 2025, is hitting .287/.308/.475 from that role.
