The Milwaukee Brewers face steep odds of signing Japanese star pitcher Roki Sasaki. However, one MLB senior writer at The Athletic recently outlined how they tick all the boxes on the important factors that Sasaki is taking into consideration when choosing an organization to sign with.
What factors is Roki Sasaki taking into consideration?
According to Sasaki’s agent Joel Wolfe, factors being taken into consideration include winning, pitching development, access to direct flights from Japan, and being in a smaller market. At The Athletic, senior writer Trent Rosecrans highlighted that the Milwaukee Brewers check all of these boxes.

He touched on the fact that Milwaukee has won the fifth most regular season games from 2021-2024, their success in developing pitchers is well documented, there is direct flight access to/from Japan just out of state at O’Hare, which is just over an hour and $114 uber ride to Milwaukee, and they are a small market team with not as much media exposure.

In Trent Rosecrans exercise of evaluating which organizations best meet what Roki Sasaki is looking for, he had the Brewers coming in fourth place. Rosecrans wrote, “Will the Brewers be the pick? It seems unlikely, but Matt Arnold’s team can make some interesting points in its sales pitch.”
It will be interesting to see where Roki Sasaki lands. He won’t sign until the new International Signing Period opens up on January 15, but his posting window closes on January 23. Regardless, we are close to knowing which organization he will choose.
