During a 4-2 Milwaukee Brewers win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday May 31, 2023 the pitching staff did a great job at keeping the Blue Jays high powered offense at bay. Starting pitcher Julio Teheran covered the first six innings followed by Joel Payamps, Peter Strzelecki, and Devin Williams to finish the game. All together those four pitchers posted a rare stat line that has not been accomplished by the Brewers since 1992.
The Milwaukee Brewers pitching staff posted a rare stat line that was last accomplished in 1992.
Between all four pitchers mentioned above not a single walk was issued. Additionally they did not strike out a single batter either. The last time a zero walk and zero strikeout game by a Milwaukee pitching staff occurred was July 11, 1992.
Leading the way was the game’s starter Julio Teheran. Over his six innings pitched he allowed four hits, one run, and obviously zero walks and strikeouts. The last starting pitcher (with a minimum of six innings pitched) to accomplish this was Scott Carl in 1999.
Overall the Milwaukee Brewers franchise has seven total games in which the pitching staff has not walked a batter or recorded a strikeout. This includes tonight’s game against Toronto, the July, 11, 1992 game, four games in 1979, and then one more contest in 1977.
It’s quite incredible that it took 31 years for this rare stat line to happen again. The Blue Jays are a swing early/aggressive team, so it makes some sense that it came against them.
