The Major League Baseball trade deadline is just hours away, and Milwaukee Brewers fans are anxiously awaiting to see what general manager Matt Arnold will do to improve the team’s roster. Fresh off a 10-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs, many fans are eager for the Brewers to go out and add a power bat and/or a relief pitcher before the deadline passes.
But the player that fans coveted the most has already been dealt.
Eugenio Suarez, the slugging third baseman with 36 home runs and a Major League-leading 87 RBI, was traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Seattle Mariners. And while it is a relief to Brewers fans that he did not end up on the north side of Chicago, it is still a bitter disappointment.
Indeed, many have expressed frustration with the fact that the only trade Milwaukee has made in the last few days was getting backup catcher Danny Jansen from the Tampa Bay Rays. That being said, it is not as if the front offices is not trying to add talent.
The Milwaukee Brewers Want a Power Bat and Reliever

Even though the more coveted names on the trade block have already been moved, there are still options, both known and unknown, available. And the Brewers are doing their best to make sure they are in on discussions, hopeful that one or two of them go their way.
Per Brewers insider Adam McCalvy:
“Matt Arnold already made impactful in-season trades for starter Quinn Priester from the Red Sox in April, first baseman Andrew Vaughn as a winning lottery ticket from the White Sox in June and catcher Danny Jansen from the Rays on Monday, but he remains open to adding power to a lineup with little of it — if such a deal can be made without costing a top prospect — and he would like to fortify a hard-worked bullpen.
“Lefty Jared Koenig scuffled against the Cubs on Wednesday while making his 51st appearance, matching Abner Uribe’s team lead. Only four pitchers in the Majors had appeared more as of 24 hours prior to the Deadline.”
As one can see, Milwaukee would like to add a power hitter, but does not want to give up a top prospect to get one. Ryan O’Hearn of Baltimore could be an option, but, as a first baseman and corner outfielder, he would not be able to play every day.
It is more likely, then, that the Brewers are limited to acquiring bullpen help. As McCalvy notes, Jared Koenig and Abner Uribe have made many appearances already this season, and the concern is that the bullpen will run out of gas in the stretch run.
Of course, one also remember that Milwaukee has been active in trades all year. Again, as McCalvy notes, the Brewers acquired Quinn Priester and Andrew Vaughn in two trades earlier this season, and both have been big contributors for the team already.
