Milwaukee Brewers general manager Matt Arnold will need to find a replacement for Willy Adames next season and beyond. Adames last week signed with the San Francisco Giants and it was not a surprise that Milwaukee did not re-sign him.
One player that could very well be traded at some point this offseason is closer Devin Williams. He has been rumored to be traded since the beginning of the offseason.
Milwaukee Brewers Biggest Need This Offseason Is Finding a Trade Partner For Devin Williams And Matt Arnold Speaks Out About It
The winter meetings have finally come to a close. Adam McCalvy of mlb.com wrote about the biggest needs for the Milwaukee Brewers after they failed to trade for Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox. He was traded from Chicago to the Boston Red Sox.
The biggest need for the Brewers according to McCalvy is finding a trade partner for the Brewers closer. Arnold said about the rumors swirling around Williams:
“I always want to be transparent with our guys in these types of situations. I’ll keep that conversation between us, but I’ve had conversations with Devin that, you know, I care about him and his future. He’s been such a valuable part of our team for a lot of years. I respect him a lot, and I want to treat him like he’s the best closer in the game, which I believe he is. He’s a guy who deserves that.”
One team that is interested in trading for Devin Williams is the New York Yankees. The Philadelphia Phillies are another team that could be interested in the star closer. The Phillies and Yankees both need bullpen help.
Finding More Pitching Help
Assuming Williams gets traded with one year remaining on his contract, the Brewers will need to find someone to be the team’s closer in 2025. Another thing that Milwaukee needs to find this offseason is more starting pitching. They have won the National League Central for the last two seasons, but general manager Matt Arnold needs to stay active in trying to make his team better.
Devin Williams being traded would hurt this team, but this is more about business than anything else. That’s why they also traded Corbin Burnes to the Baltimore Orioles last offseason for two players who could help the Milwaukee Brewers right away.
