On June 6, 2023 the Milwaukee Brewers and Baltimore Orioles squared off at American Family Field for the start of a three game series. For Luis and Ramon Urias this marked the first meeting between the two brothers in a MLB game.
Luis Urias of the Milwaukee Brewers and Ramon Urias of the Baltimore Orioles met for the first time in a MLB game.
Ramon and Luis Urias grew up in Magdalena de Kino, Mexico. Older brother Ramon loved baseball and played a big role in helping Luis learn and grow in baseball. Luis ended up making his MLB debut first in 2018 and Ramon 2020. Until today they had not met in a MLB game.
The Brewer and Orioles did have a series at Camden Yards in 2022, but Luis was on the injured list at the time. This year Luis sustained a hamstring injury on opening day and returned to the Brew Crew just one day before the start of the series.
Prior to the game Luis and Ramon were asked about this opportunity. Luis said, “It’s nice that I came back in time (from injury). Last time I got hurt, but I got back in time and i’m really excited and happy for this moment.”
Ramon had similar thoughts, “I’m super excited. It’s an opportunity of a lifetime.”
When asked if either one of these had thoughts about this moment before Luis responded with, “We didn’t even think about it, it just happened. We were just two kids playing baseball. We have come so far and being here is a dream that we never thought would be possible.”
