The Milwaukee Brewers are back in the win column after their 7-0 shutout victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night. A day after seeing his 12-game hitting streak snapped, Gold Glove second baseman Brice Turang went 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Jackson Chourio went 1-5, but his one hit extended his own hitting streak to 13 games.
Christian Yelich and William Contreras went a combined 1-8, but each drove in two runs.
The majority of the Brewers’ scoring occurred in the top of the ninth inning when they scored four runs. The story of the game, though, was Jose Quintana, Milwaukee’s newest starting pitcher who was making his season debut.
Milwaukee Brewers Pitcher Jose Quintana Beat the Arizona Diamondbacks for the First Time in His Career

Quintana signed with Milwaukee well after Spring Training started earlier this year. The two sides were, apparently, locked in intense contract negotiations that delayed his joining the team. As a result, Quintana decided to accept a minor league assignment to begin the season in an effort to continue his ramp up for the season.
And his arrival on Friday could not have come at a better time. The Brewers’ starting rotation has been devastated by injuries, with Freddy Peralta remaining as the only healthy projected starter.
Quintana gave them everything that they could have hoped for in his first start. He went seven innings, allowed our hits, no runs, and struck out two. He induced two double play balls early in the game and picked a runner off of first base.
According to Bob Nightengale, Brewers manager Pat Murphy said after the game, “I told him I’ve seen that performance a bunch, but that’s the first time I’ve been happy about it.’’
Quintana had, historically, pitched very well against Milwaukee. But on this night, as a member of the team he plagued for years, the long-time starting pitcher joined an elite list of active pitchers.
Before Quintana’s win, there were only four active starting pitchers with victories over all 30 MLB teams: Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole, and Charlie Morton.
Now there are five. Arizona was the only team Quintana had not yet earned a win against in his lengthy MLB career.
He is in some pretty good company.
