Earlier this week, the Milwaukee Brewers announced that they had signed their long-time nemesis, Jose Quintana, to a one-year contract. Last season, playing for the New York Mets, the veteran left-hander was 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA in 31 starts. For his career, he is 102-103 with a 3.74 ERA.
Throughout his 13-year MLB career, Quintana faced the Brewers 23 times. He has a 9-7 record with a 2.98 ERA against them, making him one of the most frustrating pitchers Milwaukee had to face, especially during his days with National League Central Division foes the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Jose Quintana Says He Now Understands Why the Milwaukee Brewers Win So Much

Many of the times Milwaukee had to face Quintana were in high-pressure games, whether they be while fighting for a spot in the MLB Playoffs or in the postseason itself. Just last year, Quintana pitched six shutout innings against the Brewers in Game Three of the Wild Card series in a game that the Mets eventually won.
Speaking to reporters for the first time since signing with Milwaukee, Quintana revealed that he now understands why those Brewers teams he faced so often experienced the level of success that they did:
“It’s a completely different feeling. I’m so excited to be a part of this group. A lot of younger guys and you know right away I’m passing through the clubhouse and feel that energy. Now, I understand after just a few days here why they win. How they win. This is a new journey for me and I’m excited for the next chapter of my career and I can’t wait to be a Brewer.”
As one can see from the quote above, Quintana had high praise for the youthful energy the team has and how they are able to channel that into winning ballgames. Thankfully, they will not have to worry about facing him anymore, at least for a year.
