On Wednesday of this week, it was reported that Green Bay Packers all-time leading scorer Mason Crosby had announced his retirement from the NFL. This news, of course, did not come as a big surprise because he did not play in the NFL at all in 2024. Instead, he has been hosting a sports talk show on the radio in Milwaukee (1250 the Fan).

Crosby, of course, did not play for the Packers at all following the 2022 season. Instead, the organization did not bring him back when his contract expired, opting to go with Anders Carlson whom they selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The move ended up being a disaster for Green Bay, as Carlson fell well short of being a suitable replacement.

Crosby ended his time with the Packers with a 81.4% field goal percentage and 97.3 extra point percentage. After Green Bay decided not to bring him back, Crosby spent most of 2023 as a free agent, though he did get signed by the New York Giants late in that season. He appeared in three games, but made just five of his seven field goal attempts.

On Thursday, Crosby released the following message on social media:

    Loved every moment! #GoPackGo pic.twitter.com/t34k8rhMkV

    — Mason Crosby (@crosbykicks2) March 6, 2025

“The two years since I played in Green Bay has been a whirlwind, but now that my family is established in our new home, I want to take a moment to acknowledge blessing and privilege to play for the Green Bay Packers and be a part of that special community.

“I was lucky to be a part of a Super Bowl winning team, see my family go from Molly and I to a family of seven, all delivered in Green Bay as we lived there year-round, and made memories that I know will be among my most cherished.

“Retiring as a Packers is my way of saying that even though I may now live in another state, I am still that ambassador. But now instead of cheering me on, it is my turn to champion and celebrate what is all being accomplished in Wisconsin. You will continue to hear and see me around, doing what I can to shine a spotlight on all the amazing things that happen in the area and also helping vital groups in the community.

“Thank you Packers fans for all the support for 16 seasons. Thank you to the Packers organization for the opportunity to play the game I love. Thank you to all of my teammates over the 16 seasons. We had an incredible run and I am so grateful for the friendships formed that will last a life time. Thank you to the Packers support staff that work tirelessly to support all we do on and off the field.

“To the Green Bay community and all of our lifelong relationships formed during our time there, I could not have had the success I had on the field as a kicker without the support that I had off of it. Once a Packer always a Packer!

    “Go Pack Go!”
