Just a few days ago, the Milwaukee Brewers were in the midst of an 11-game winning streak and playing immaculate baseball. Now, though, they have dropped two of their last three games, their latest loss a 5-1 disappointment against the Miami Marlins. All-Star starter Freddy Peralta pitched well enough for Milwaukee to win, but the bullpen was uncharacteristically bad and gave up four runs in the seventh inning after the game had been tied 1-1.
Reliever Nick Mears, who is third on the team with 45 appearances out of the bullpen, injured his back during his warm-up, but did not alert anyone because he thought he could pitch through it. He allowed three runs (two earned) in his two-thirds of an inning of work.
The nature and extent of his injury is not yet known.
Indeed, there was little to enjoy from the game itself from a Brewers fan perspective, but young outfielder Jackson Chourio, once again, put his name in the history books.
Milwaukee Brewers Outfielder Jackson Chourio Has an 18-Game Hit Streak

The Brewers’ lone run of the day came on a solo home run from second-year outfielder Jackson Chourio in the bottom of the fourth inning. Chourio’s blast, his 17th of the year, tied the game 1-1 and extended his hitting streak to 18 games.
And while there have been many hitting streaks longer than 18 games, it is rare that a player as young as Chourio (21 years old) has such a long run of success at the plate.
In fact, the last time any player aged 21 or younger had an 18-game hit streak was Freddie Freeman had a 20-game hit streak in 2011:

Chourio is hitting .271/.303/.464 with 17 home runs, 66 RBI, and and 18 stolen bases this season. Last year, as a 20-year-old rookie, he hit .275/.327/.464 with 21 home runs, 79 RBI, and 22 stolen bases.
