Two months ago, Milwaukee Brewers infield prospect Brock Wilken suffered an unfortunate knee injury celebrating the Biloxi Shuckers’ first-half championship down at Double-A. Today, the team reinstated Wilken from the injured list, putting one of the Brewers’ most exciting minor leaguers back on the field. With proper health, though he still has holes in his swing, the slugging third baseman could debut in Milwaukee as soon as next season.
A tantalizing power bat, Brock Wilken finally rejoins lineup for Milwaukee Brewers’ Double-A affiliate
Through 65 games in his second Double-A season, Wilken is hitting .230/.392/.550 with 18 homeruns and 17 doubles. That represents a significant improvement from 2024, when he slashed .199/.312/.363 in his first full year in the Brewers system.

Drafted 18th overall from Wake Forest in 2023, Wilken sits No. 17 in the team’s prospect rankings, boasting tremendous power and a cannon of an arm at third. Whether to keep him there or try him at another position is something the Brewers will have to decide. In the big leagues, Caleb Durbin has emerged as a cornerstone at the hot corner. Projected to debut in 2026, Wilken may need to switch positions to sidestep a potential roadblock.
Alternatively, Durbin, who has seen reps at second this season and played short in the minors, could look to expand his own flexibility in the field to make way for Wilken.

Finally back, Wilken must now make the most of the remaining Double-A schedule to finish out what has been a very strong season overall. If he is to succeed at higher levels, one area in which he must improve is his bat-to-ball ability. While he has boosted his average 30 points from last year, the Brewers would obviously like to see him bring it up further. His strikeout rate has remained the same, as Wilken has fanned in one-third of his at-bats.

As big a bat as he has, that’s not going to cut it. Against Triple-A pitchers, let alone big leaguers, he will face better swing-and-miss stuff. He takes his walks, an encouraging sign, but he’s going to have connect a bit more often to continue climbing the organizational ladder. With his plate discipline and huge power, even modest improvements in his contact rate would bode well for his professional career.
