The Milwaukee Brewers seem to be eager to add new players by giving up some of their old ones. The Brew Crew has one goal in mind, and that is to win the World Series. Milwaukee has young talented players on the team and they seem to be ready to give way for the upcoming stars. With they look to build their lineup, one name that has been swirling around trade rumors is Devin Williams.
Williams did not pitch much in the last season due to injuries. Williams had stress fractures in his back and was placed on a 60-day trial. Williams pitched only 21.2 innings and finished his season with a 1-0 record. His 2024 postseason appearance was a disaster as he held a 0-1 record with a miserable 21.60 ERA.
It’s safe to say that the Milwaukee Brewers are considering other replacements. The Brewers want to go beyond the Wild Card round in 2025. Williams has been in the rumor mill for a long time. The Chicago Cubs are believed to be linked with Devin Williams’ trade rumors. Williams to the Cubs will be great, but the Brewers will expect something more from the Cubs.
Chicago has young talented players and one of the best farm systems. If they get a great deal with the Cubs, they might just part ways with Williams. The Brewers have it all sorted out as they might just play their cards well. Milwaukee will not spend much and paying Williams a huge some is something they are capable of avoiding.
Milwaukee Brewers Declined Devin Williams’ Club Option
The Milwaukee Brewers declined Devin Williams’ $10.5 million club option. The pitcher will get a buyout of $250.000 to remain with the team. One of the primary reasons for the team to delete the club’s option was due to his injuries.
Williams’ 2024 regular-season stars were not good enough. He has been a great close, but his injuries have taken the best of him. The Brew Crew will not want to risk an injury-prone player on their team next season. That said, Williams could be out of the list.
Milwaukee’s manager Matt Arnold stated that the team in open-minded. Since the Brewers have declined Williams’ club option, they are expected to get other teams showing their interest. As per multiple reports and rumors, the Brewers will not retain Williams for another season. It’s a hard call but an efficient one for the team.
