In November, the Milwaukee Brewers selected 26 year Connor Thomas in the Rule-5 Draft. The southpaw was purchased from the St. Louis Cardinals, in which the former fifth round pick in 2019 had spent his entire professional career in their organization. Upon coming to the Brew Crew, Thomas roasted the Red Birds in a recent interview for their lack of coaching.

During an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Thomas pointed out that he was glad to now be with an organization that was coaching him and providing feedback. Regarding his time with the Cardinals, Thomas said, ” As far as the coaching side of it, there really wasn’t a whole lot. It was a bunch of ‘Hey, this is what you do. Just try to go figure it out and figure out how to get hitters out.'”
He also went on to say, “There were no tweaks, nothing like that, nothing of this. A great organization, and I enjoyed my time over there, but I’m happy to be with a team that’s, on the coaching side of it, doing a little more for me.”
Connor Thomas statistics

Connor Thomas has not yet made his MLB debut, but he is coming off of his best season. Last year he pitched 90.1 innings, (three games started, and 56 appearances) had a 2.89 ERA, recorded five holds, and had three saves. 2024 was Thomas’ first year operating more out of the bullpen than as a starter, but he still had numerous outings where he threw multiple innings.
A lock for the Opening Day roster

As a Rule-5 pick, Thomas has to stay on the active 26-man roster all season, otherwise he will be offered back to the Cardinals. This essentially makes him a lock for the Opening Day roster, that way he gets an ample amount of opportunity with the Brewers. This spring, he has been in two games and has tossed 3.2 scoreless innings, so his tenure with Milwaukee is off to a good start.
