For just the second time in franchise history, the Milwaukee Brewers have multiple gold glove award winners in a single season as Brice Turang and Sal Frelick are 2024 winners. The only other time this was accomplished was in 1979 when Cecil Cooper and Sixto Lezcano each won at their respective positions.
Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Brice Turang and right fielder Sal Frelick are 2024 gold glove award winners
Edging out Ketel Marte and Bryson Stott for the Brewers first ever gold glove award at second base was Brice Turang. ESPN pointed out that Turang’s ability to make plays going towards his right while still having the arm strength, or the ability to jump throw, separated him from the pack.
Sal Frelick got praise for showing the ability to “run through a wall” to catch a ball while also leading National League right fielders in defensive runs saved (DRS). When asked about winning the award Sal Frelick discussed how he didn’t really start playing the outfield until he turned pro and that the last few years have consisted of improving his route running abilities.
Blake Perkins was not a 2024 gold glove award winner
Three Brewers in total were finalists for gold glove awards this year and Blake Perkins was the lone man to not win. The center fielder led the National League in home run robberies, but ultimately lost to Brenton Doyle. Doyle won a gold glove a season ago during his rookie season and now has back-to-back gold gloves underneath his belt.
MLB award season will continue throughout the month of November. Later, manager of the year, executive of the year, most valuable player, rookie of the year, and others will be announced.
