Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy recently sat down with Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. They discussed a variety of topics, in which one was the availability of starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff. Murphy ultimately said, “he won’t be ready (for opening day)”.
Brandon Woodruff underwent shoulder surgery in 2023

In October of 2023, Woodruff underwent shoulder surgery to repair a torn capsule. He missed the entire 2024 season and now likely won’t be ready for Opening Day. Murphy said, “I think we’ve got to realize what he’s coming back from. He’s coming back from a shoulder injury that is quite serious, and that doesn’t always have a timetable that’s conducive to spring training starting.”
Where is Brandon Woodruff at in the recovery process?

A month ago, Woodruff spoke with the media and said that he was throwing 30 pitch bullpens. The plan after that was to throw simulated innings, pitch to live hitters, and get plugged in the Brewers pitching lab. At the time, Woodruff revealed that by design he had no clue where his velocity sat, but he was feeling really good.
