Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy has his team playing some excellent baseball this season and playing with passion. A few benches clearing incidences early on were evidence of this, but Murphy himself is not afraid to stand up for his players as he was recently ejected for the third time this season.
Pat Murphy was ejected during the Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Rockies Monday night game.

In the fifth inning Joey Ortiz laid down a nice bunt, avoided the tag, and appeared to be safe at first base. Unfortunately first base umpire Brian O’Nora ruled him out of the base runners lane. This play is not reviewable and while asking for an explanation Pat Murphy was ejected.
Pat Murphy has been kindly asked to depart the field of play after objecting to this call on Joey Ortiz. It’s a big call, because William Contreras followed with a homer. pic.twitter.com/hFcvCGYxVl

MLB expanded the runners lane prior to the start of the 2024 season.

A rule change this year is that runners must remain in a three foot box foul side of the base line during the final 45 feet between home and first. During review of the play Joey Ortiz appeared to establish a runners lane very close to the fair side of the line but he did stay within the lane while avoiding the tag.
Rule 5.09(b)(1) states a runner is out when he deviates “more than 3 feet from his base path” to avoid a tag. The base path is established at the beginning of the tag attempt.

What are Pat Murphy’s other two ejections for this season?

As mentioned Pat Murphy discussing this play that Joey Ortiz was called out on earned him his third ejection of the season. His other ejections came during the same series in April against the Tampa Bay Rays when he argued a call an umpire made in the ninth inning for back swing interference and he was then tossed later in the series as a part of the Jose Siri incident.
