Milwaukee Brewers legend Bob Uecker is special person. His voice on the radio broadcasts is a part of Wisconsin summers as baseball fans tune into games throughout the season. At the stadium he is treated like one of the guys and following the Brew Crews devastating loss to the New York Mets in the playoffs he comforted the team in the locker room afterwards.
The 2024 Milwaukee Brewers were eliminated from playoff contention by the New York Mets.
Under first year manager Pat Murphy the 2024 Milwaukee Brewers appeared to be a special team. Nobody picked them to have much success entering the year but yet they were in first place in their division for over 75% of the season, were division champs, and hosted a playoff series. In the Wild Card Series they were three outs away from advancing to the Divisional Series, but a Pete Alonso go-ahead three run home run sparked a big inning for the Mets and Milwaukee went on to lose 4-2.
Bob Uecker comforts the team after being eliminated from the playoffs.
Adam McCalvy, MLB.com reporter for the Brewers, wrote that after the game Bob Uecker circled the locker room. He started with Devin Williams. Then he gathered with a group of players for an hour outside the weight room to share hugs and tears. Players afterwards re-iterated how special Bob Uecker is and that he even managed to counsel them with a joke.
“It was sad, just hugging him today after the loss, because he’s cheering for us, too. It was crazy, because he told us a joke, too, right after a sad moment. He always brings something. You never know with him.”

Christian Yelich was emotional when talking about his one on one with Bob Uecker.
With tears in his eyes Christian Yelich shared how special his time with Bob Uecker has been. Yelich said, “It’s special every time he’s around. You shouldn’t take it for granted. He’s the man. He means a lot to this place. Anybody that’s spent any kind of time here knows how special Bob is.”

With Bob Uecker promising players “see you next season” they will have to take the words of comfort he provided them, regroup, and try to make it back into the playoffs again next year.
