The Packers doubled down on trying to improve quarterback Jordan Love’s supporting cast this offseason, but will it be enough?
After watching Green Bay’s receiving corps struggle mightily with dropped passes and a true No. 1 emerging from the likes of Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Romeo Doubs, general manager Brian Gutekunst and the Packers prioritized the position by selecting Matthew Golden in the first round and doubling down with Savion Williams arriving in Round 3. The goal, is to set Love and the offense up to become explosive and consistent.
However, not everyone believes the Packers have the requisite pieces in place to make a leap offensively
NFL Analyst Bearish on Packers’ Passing Game

NFL Media Editor at Large, Gennaro Filice put together a preseason ranking of each team’s triplets (quarterback and top two receivers), with the Packers sliding three spots from where they finished last season, to No. 17 in the league.
“After Green Bay spent a first-round pick on a wideout for the first time in 23 years,” Filice writes of the Packers. “GM Brian Gutekunst reportedly met with Jayden Reed’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, to stress that his client would remain top dog in the passing game. But while a foot sprain sidelined Reed for most of August, Matthew Golden created plenty of buzz as a three-level playmaker, increasing the feeling that the No. 23 overall pick could be WR1 in Year 1. Now, Jordan Love’s still likely to spread the ball across the receiving corps. Admittedly, I don’t know how Green Bay will divide up the target-share pie. Maybe we should ask LaFleur for some clarity.”
It remains to be seen how Love’s target hierarchy will evolve this season, how big a piece of the puzzle Golden will play, and if the Packers’ revamped receiving corps will help Love improve as a downhill passer.
Either way, Green Bay’s receiving corps has much to prove in a season the Packers enter with lofty expectations.
