The Green Bay Packers have just vaulted themselves firmly into the top contenders in the NFL by adding one of the league’s best defenders, Micah Parsons, via a trade with the Dallas Cowboys. The Packers were already viewed as a team capable of making plenty of noise, but the addition of Parsons should make them borderline Super Bowl contenders.
Green Bay Packers Acquiring Micah Parsons in Blockbuster Trade
After weeks of drama between edge rusher Micah Parsons and the Cowboys, the perennial defensive player of the year candidate is now on his way to Green Bay. The Packers are upgrading their pass rush with one of the league’s best and most consistent sack artists. The move is easily the most prominent of GM Brian Gutekunst’s busy offseason.

As part of the move, Parsons is also signing a 4-year contract worth $188 million. While ESPN and the NFL have reported different numbers about the guaranteed elements of the contract, it is clear that a lot of the money will be guaranteed.

In return, the Packers are giving up two 1st-round draft picks and interior defensive linemen Kenny Clark. While Clark will be missed, it still feels like a tremendously good trade.
Micah Parsons Announces Himself as a Green Bay Packer
Parsons is clearly happy about the move after wanting out of Dallas for a good portion of the offseason. He personally announced the move on Twitter, where he thanked the Cowboys fans and also compared himself to Green Bay Packers legend Reggie White in a hype video.

The video includes highlights of White, the outside of Lambeau Field, and video of past Packers Lombardi trophies. The goal for Parsons and company now will be to bring the next title to Wisconsin.
Many considered pass rush as the weakest element of Green Bay’s roster. Now, it might be one of the strongest. With a lead dog like Parsons, it’s not hard to imagine players like Rashan Gary or Lukas Van Ness having a much easier time getting to the quarterback.

Parsons has averaged over 13 sacks per season through his first four years in the league. Green Bay has now locked up the next four years of his career.
