Being a student-athlete is hard but for Stevie Mitchell, it is something he wants to excel at. And he does as he just got honored with the Big East Scholar Athlete Award on Wednesday.

The fourth year guard, a fan favorite for his hustle, made a trip to the Madison Square Garden for the ceremony meant to honor the conference’s most exemplary student athletes.
The event was graced by Big East Conference commissioner Val Ackerman.

This is not the first time that Mitchell was awarded for his academic excellence. He was named to the Academic All-Americans last year together with Oso Ighodaro who’s now in the NBA playing for the Phoenix Suns.

“It means a lot,” Mitchell said. “I think it’s really cool with Oso winning it last year and I get to win it this year.
“I think it just goes into setting the standard on the court and then in the classroom. Just plan on excelling in everything that we do. That’s what we do at Marquette.”
Mitchell is majoring in finance and information systems and recently just did an internship with the Robert W. Baird & Co. as a research assistant.
Stevie Mitchell continues to be a Marquette Golden Eagles pride
Mitchell has been a model student-athlete since coming to the university in 2021. His individual awards are not just all about his excellence on the hard court but also in the classroom.
He always shows up for his teammates and always shows up in the studies, too.
He is a consistent honoree of several academic excellence awards. He got his first Academic Excellence Award in 2021-2022 season, the same year he received his first BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
He was named to the CSC Academic All-District honor in the 2023-2024 season and was honored with the Academic Excellence Award and UBUNTU Award in the same year.

When it comes to basketball, he is not lacking. Just recently, he was revealed to be among the nominees for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award.
He said that juggling school and sports has been hard and that is why he is thankful for people around him.
“It hasn’t been too crazy, I got a lot of people to help me. Teammates, academic advisors. Adrienne (Ridgeway, MU’s executive associate athletic director for academic services and student programs), she helps a lot just with scheduling and planning and just knowing due dates and stuff, knowing when I have to get it done by.”
