Marquette Golden Eagles‘ impressive streak inside the Top 25 of the Associated Press Coaches Poll in NCAA basketball is in danger.

AP has released the results of Week 19 Coaches Poll in college basketball and placed the Golden Eagles at no. 25 after placing 20 in last week’s poll.
This is the 50th week they are inside Top 25, the fourth longest active streak behind Houston Cougar who are in it for 104 straight weeks now, Tennessee Titans who are in their 78th week, and Purdue Boilermakers who are still kicking it after 57 weeks.
Houston are currently no. 2 while Tennessee are no. 8 although they went down by four spots. Purdue, just like the Golden Eagles, continues to slide as they are down by two spots at no. 20.
The drop is due to the team’s struggle last week, losing important games against two Big East top teams.

They first lost to the UConn Huskies, 66-72, and then followed it up with a defeat to no. 1 St. John’s Red Storm via a overtime period buzzer beater by Zuby Ejiofor.
Marquette Golden Eagles last regular season game
The Golden Eagles still have one remaining game in the regular season. They will visit the Xavier Musketeers on Thursday for a chance to end the season on a strong note.
Head coach Shaka Smart says it is all about the response after their Week 19 struggle.

“Don’t have a choice,” Smart said shortly after the loss to Red Storm. “Response is a huge key in our program, the ability to focus on the next most important thing.
“It’s easy to say it. But the reason that we emphasize it is for times like this. You got to respond within the game. And then you have to respond between games.”
