The No. 9 Marquette basketball extended its win streak to three games after taking down the Butler Bulldogs at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Tuesday night via a score of 78-69t. It was a hard-earned win over an unranked Butler squad for the Golden Eagles, as they had to find a way to survive the Bulldogs amid star guard Kam Jones’ foul trouble.
Stevie Mitchell played a huge role in Marquette basketball’s win, as he dropped a career-high 22 points on an efficient 9-for-14 shooting from the floor to go with five rebounds and three assists. But if you ask Mitchell, he’s not one to view himself as someone who should be defined only by his ability to get buckets.
Stevie Mitchell sounds off on brilliant performance for Marquette basketball in Butler game
“I don’t really take pride in, like, points,” Mitchell said after the game, per Ben Steele of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “There’s so many other things that I bring to the game.”
At the end of the day, the only thing that matters to Mitchell is the game’s result.
“I just take pride in winning. Some games it’s going to end up with me having some points. Just because of the way we play, everybody touches the ball. Everybody’s put in positions to score,” Mitchell continued. “Then some games, it won’t. Those games, it’s still about what can you do to help the team win. I just take pride in that. Winning and doing whatever it takes.”
In addition to his scoring output, Mitchell produced five boards, three assists, a block and a steal in 33 minutes of action.
Mitchell has scored 43 points in the last two Golden Eagles games on 16-for-24 shooting from the floor.
On the season, Mitchell is averaging 12.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game while making 52.6 percent success rate on shots from the field.
