Fiserv Forum was packed on Saturday for the marquee Big East showdown between the No. 9 Marquette basketball and No. 25 UConn Huskies. After all, it was the National Marquette Day for Marquette Nation, with the Golden Eagles’ official X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter) announcing that the 18,129 fans in attendance for that contest were the most ever at Fiserv Forum for a Marquette hoops game.

However, the Golden Eagles’ 77-69 loss to the two-time defending national champions doused cold water on the special night. Many Marquette fans online let their true feelings known about the UConn game’s outcome with harsh reactions to the said post. Here are some of them:
“Maybe the team can stay after and work on free throws 🤷”
“Too bad they had to witness that first half in person. 👀”
“shame.”
“AND YOU CANT WIN WITH THAT!?!?!?”
“Dawg we can’t shoot”
“Embarrassing and disgraceful every penny of their NIL should be spent on giving the fans their money back #mubb”
UConn cools down Marquette basketball
The Huskies used a strong first half to stave off Marquette, with UConn outscoring the host team in the first 20 minutes of the contest, 42-29. Marquette basketball’s offense struggled in the UConn game where the Golden Eagles recorded just a 102.5 offensive rating – their lowest in a game since posting an 85.1 in the loss to Sean Miller’s Xavier Musketeers. The Golden Eagles also registered a 45.2 effective field goal percentage while shooting only 7-for-22 from behind the arc.
Marquette will look to pick things up again on Tuesday when they visit the red-hot St. John’s Red Storm of Rick Pitino.
