LSU Tigers wide receiver Malik Nabers only needed 23 yards receiving against the Wisconsin Badgers in the Reliaquest Bowl to break a record held by Josh Reed of 3,001 yards receiving in his LSU career. Nabers caught three passes for 23 yards receiving in a 35-31 win for LSU over Wisconsin.
He broke that record in the first quarter for LSU and averaged 7.7 yards per catch. After that record was broken, Nabers sat out the entire second half. At least he was able to play in the game against the Wisconsin Badgers and break the all-time record for receiving yards at LSU and it will be interesting to see when that record will be broken again.
He goes into an elite list of wide receivers at LSU and some of those names are Odell Beckham Jr., Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, and others. Beckham Jr. is currently on the Baltimore Ravens, Chase is currently on the Cincinnati Bengals, and Jefferson is currently on the Minnesota Vikings roster. The point is that LSU could be known as wide receiver university.
Malik Nabers is projected to be a Top 10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He is one of the best wide receivers on the board this season along with Marvin Harrison Jr. of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Rome Odunze of the Washington Huskies.
This season with the LSU Tigers, Malik Nabers caught 89 passes for 1,569 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns. He averaged 17.6 yards per catch and also had one rushing yard on one carry. This was also the second consecutive season that Nabers went over 1,000 yards receiving.
The Wisconsin Badgers Competed Hard Against Malik Nabers and the LSU Tigers
Even with Wisconsin not nearly having the athletes LSU has, the Badgers competed hard against the Tigers despite losing the game. It will be interesting to see where head coach Luke Fickell’s Badgers program goes moving forward after this game. They will need to be better in 2024 also.
LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly will have one of the best teams in the country in 2024. Nabers will turn his focus to the 2024 NFL Draft and there will be several suitors for his services. Nabers could be a number-one wide receiver and a game-changer on an NFL team right away.
