Jordan Love spoke to the media for the first time as the Green Bay Packers starting quarterback. Obviously, he was asked plenty of questions about Aaron Rodgers and the events that took place over the course of the offseason. Love got a chance to speak about the relationship he had with Rodgers in Green Bay and their relationship now.
Jordan Love Learning From Rodgers
“I learned a lot. I was able to watch a great quarteback and how he works everyday, how he handles buisness in the locker room, interacts with teammates, and just how he attacks everyday. Just being able to sit back as a quarterback and observe him, observe his footwork, how the ball comes out of his hand, just how he practices everyday and then takes that into the game, It’s just very valuable stuff that I was able to sit for three years and kind of juts pick his brain on and watch him work.”
-Jordan Love
Aaron Rodgers often spoke about how he was able to sit back and learn from watching Brett Favre. It’s poetic that his time in Green Bay ended as the mentor for Jordan Love. Jordan Love’s first press conference as the starter made one thing very clear. He is not short on confidence. He feels like he is ready and accredited a lot of that to the fact that he was able to learn from Rodgers.
Not only did Jordan Love observe Rodgers, but he was able to ask questions and hear from one of the greatest quarterbacks ever. Ever since Love arrived in Green Bay he has spoken glowingly of Rodgers’ willingness to teach him and help him in any way possible. Rodgers has also said how he thinks it’s important to mentor the next crop of quarterbacks for the betterment of the game.
Post Trade
“We talked after the trade. It was kind of just ‘wish you the best going forward.’ He wished me the best, and always there for me if I need anything or if I have any questions or anything. Always just greatful to be around him, for the time I had with him and to be able to learn and be behind him.”
-Jordan Love
Jordan Love was put in an objectively tough situation. He came into Green Bay as a first-round pick who saw no immediate path to the field. The man in front of him was a future first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterback with two MVP awards under his belt. Jordan Love then watched Rodgers win two more MVP awards and sign an extension.
“It’s hard. When I got drafted here I knew exactly what situation I was going to be put in, who I was going to be behind. I knew it was going to come with time. I was going to come in and learn, and grow. I’ll admit, I think the hardest time was when he resigned the contract last year. It was kind of like, ‘Where do we go from here? What do I do?'”
-Jordan Love
Jordan Love has been nothing but professional since arriving in Green Bay. He will now get a chance to lead the Packers as just the third week one starter in 30 years.
