The Milwaukee Bucks this season are 16-12 and the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. On Thursday night, they will be facing the Brooklyn Nets. Milwaukee is looking to continue its climb in the Eastern Conference Standings.
At some point, the Bucks might be making trades to either shed some salary or improve the roster for a championship run this season. One player who could be shopped by the trade deadline this season is Bobby Portis Jr.
Latest Mock Trade Has Milwaukee Bucks Bobby Portis Being Traded To the Dallas Mavericks
Sportingnews.com writer Anthony Pasciolla created a mock trade between the Dallas Mavericks and the Milwaukee Bucks. He has Dallas receiving Bobby Portis for Naji Marshall, Dwight Powell, and a 2030 first-round pick from the San Antonio Spurs. Pasciolla said:
“It could be in their best interest to move on from one of their big men: Brook Lopez or Bobby Portis. Considering each thrives in different areas, it’s a matter of preference for Milwaukee’s front office.”
He also added about the mock trade between Dallas and Milwaukee:
“Marshall is a 26-year-old forward in the midst of a breakout season. He is averaging 11.5 points and 3.3 rebounds on 52.9% shooting. It begs the question of why the Mavericks would be willing to part with him. It’s simply a matter of how Portis fits with their rotation.
Mavs big men Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford provide almost no floor-stretching ability alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Adding Portis, who is shooting 39.6% from three-point range this year, is a recipe for success.
Meanwhile, as previously mentioned, the Bucks maintain competitiveness while also securing a future first-round pick. Milwaukee does not control their own first-round selection until 2031, so tanking is not an option.”
At some point, the Milwaukee Bucks are going to need to acquire draft capital from other teams whether it is from the Dallas Mavericks or not. Portis Jr. has played in 27 games this season for Milwaukee. He is averaging 13.9 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 2.1 APG, 0.6 BPG, and 0.6 SPG.
If Dallas were to make a trade like this, it would make this team better. The Dallas Mavericks have a 19-11 record this season in the NBA and they are one of the top teams in the Western Conference.
Mentioned In Trade Rumors Last Offseason Too
It is nothing new for the 29-year-old player to be mentioned in trade rumors for the Milwaukee Bucks. He was mentioned in them last off-season and was never traded. Portis Jr. has had his ups and downs this season for Milwaukee.
He is a very good bench option and it would be interesting to see him thrive on a different team like Dallas. Having Powell and Marshall off the bench for Milwaukee would be intriguing moves as well and general manager Jon Hoest could receive some backlash if this move was ever made.
