The Wisconsin Badgers bowl game will conclude their season tomorrow night. They will take on OK State Football in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:15 PM in Arizona. There are going to be a lot of new faces and names we will hear tomorrow for both teams. Here’s what to look for tomorrow night.
Who Is QB1 for Badgers Bowl Game?
With Graham Mertz leaving and Oklahoma transfer Nick Evers potentially starting next season, will the Badgers go with senior Chase Wold or true freshman Myles Burkett? I’ve stated for the last few weeks that while I think Wolf should see some action with it being his last game, Burkett should get a majority of the reps. Burkett is a quarterback that fits the style Phil Longo and Luke Fickell want to run. As a result, they should see what they have in the Franklin, WI native.
Burkett isn’t going to wow you with his arm in the Badgers bowl game. However, the talk has always been that he’s a smart player and a gamer. He can make the throws you want him to make, and he’s a natural leader. He also has the ability to escape the pocket, something Graham Mertz was never known for. I hope he plays tomorrow and gets a majority of the snaps.
The Badgers Bowl Game Is For Young Players
Just like the Last Vegas Bowl last season, we should be hearing a lot of names we didn’t hear throughout the season. The Badgers bowl game is an opportunity for the young players to show Luke Fickell what they can do on the field. Coach Fickell did travel with the team, so he will get a close look at what he has coming back next season.
Jordan Turner and Skyler Bell took advantage of their opportunities last year and played well in the Vegas Bowl. Now? Both are starters and making an impact. Look for players such as Myles Burkett, Geo Paez, Darryl Peterson, Kaden Johnson, and T.J. Bollers to get a lot of playing time and to take advantage of their opportunities. Due to transfers and players declaring for the draft, these seem to have the most to prove in the Badgers Bowl Game.
Guaranteed Rate Bowl Prediction
I haven’t gone too in-depth on what OK State Football will do. Quite frankly, it doesn’t matter. The Cowboys are missing players on both sides of the ball as well. As a result, it’s hard to see what we’ll get from the Badgers bowl game opponent.
I think the Wisconsin offense is the difference in this game. Yes, the Badgers will be bringing in their second and/or third-string quarterbacks, but the offensive weapons are still there. Braelon Allen, Chez Mellusi, Chimere Dike, and Skyler Bell will all be playing. Despite losing Joe Tippmann to the NFL Draft, Wisconsin will likely move Tanor Bortolini to center. Otherwise, the offensive line should stay intact.
I have to believe Wisconsin wants to win this game badly for Jim Leonhard. Leonhard has stated he will not stay with the program after tomorrow’s game. While his next step is to be determined, I believe these players and coaches want to send Leonhard and the seniors out the right way. Give me the Badgers in the bowl game victory as the Luke Fickell era begins Wednesday.
