The biggest news right now in the Green Bay Packers camp is the retention of offensive Zach Tom who was almost an All-Pro last season.
The Packers announced that they have extended their 140th pick from 2022 to four more years after completing a four-year, $88 million deal.

Head coach Matt LaFleur suggests that extending the 26-year-old is only the right thing to do.
Matt LaFleur on Zach Tom: “He’s earned it. He’s played a lot of really good football for us. I FaceTimed him after the deal was done and he couldn’t stop smiling.
“I’m confident he’s gonna do what’s gotten him here.”

Tom deserves it but he did not get the chance to celebrate it as the team had a practice on Wednesday. He did, however, cry a bit upon hearing the news.

“I called my family,” he said when asked how he received the news of his massive deal.
“They were obviously excited. Shed a couple tears, but I didn’t really get too much time to formally celebrate it. Maybe I’ll do something the next off-day.”
The $88 million makes him the third highest paid right tackle in the league, next to Detroit Lions’ Penei Sewell and Philadelphia Eagles’ Lane Johnson.
GM on Zach Tom’s versatility
New deal for Tom and there’s a new challenge for him. General manager Brian Gutekunst said they might use him in more positions this season.
“He’s such a versatile player for us,” Gutekunst told reporters on Wednesday.
“He has the ability to play all over the line. Certainly he’s locked down that right tackle spot and done such a good job for us for the last couple of years so, I think that was important for the Packers to get that done and I’m excited for Zach and where’s he’s gonna go from here.”

Tom is unfazed by the changes and he believes in his own ability to produce in whatever ways as he has already been doing that for the team.
“I pride myself on being versatile,” he said.
“If they need me to play wherever, I’ll be there. I got an opportunity here to play. My rookie year, obviously, I was all over the place, but then my second year I was able to cement myself at right tackle and I did pretty good. And then last year, I did pretty good, too. It’s just one of those things where you get the opportunity, you’ve got to capitalize.”
