The Green Bay Packers wide receiver trade rumors have done nothing but heat up this week. With free agency approaching, news seems to be breaking in the NFL on the daily, and much of the optimism Packers fans felt about potential additions in the recent weeks is receiving more and more noise around it. This week has been particularly fruitful in delivering promising news about several veteran wide receivers being available.

Stefon Diggs Very Likely to Be On the Market in Free Agency
Veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs is out of contract this year and will likely be looking for a new team. After the Houston Texans acquired Diggs for a high price last offseason, the team looks like they are almost guaranteed to let him walk away this offseason. Thursday, they traded a 2026 second-round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for veteran pass-catcher Christian Kirk.
Kirk is almost certainly viewed by the team as a replacement for the veteran Diggs, who had a strong start to the season but went down with a season-ending ACL tear in late October. This injury question may have contributed to Houston’s willingness to move on.

Firstly, his salary will be extremely low compared to Metcalf’s. After all, the reason DK wants out of Seattle is the franchise’s unwillingness to offer him a massive contract extension. And that is only half of the price equation. The Packers would also need to fork over significant resources, including significant draft compensation and even a good player as well, in order to add Metcalf. Conversely, Diggs is available as a free agent.
Will the Green Bay Packers Pursue Stefon Diggs?
While history shows that the Packers rarely commit hefty resources to free agency, last year was perhaps the beginning of a buck in the trend. The team invested a lot of money in veteran running back Josh Jacobs, a move that has worked out very well so far. While Diggs is not going to be able to carry such a heavy workload in the offense due to his age and recent injury, he can absolutely be an inexpensive veteran addition that will elevate the team’s ceiling and positively impact the Packers young receivers.

The signing of Diggs, who is a former Minnesota Viking star, could ruffle the feathers of some Packers fans, and while many fans would be much more excited by someone like Metcalf, there is a lot of merit in making financially smart commitments to proven talents, even if they are regressing, than splashing the cash (or draft capital) on much more expensive talent. If Diggs can be convinced that Green Bay is a contending team that can also offer him a large role in the offense, than there is reason to believe that a short-term, team-friendly deal could make him Green Bay’s newest weapon this offseason.
