The Green Bay Packers will be entering the playoffs without Jaire Alexander playing cornerback. Green Bay is going to have a difficult time trying to slow down A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith. The Packers finished the regular season with an 11-6 record and the Eagles had a 14-3 record.
Green Bay’s defense is also going to be challenged with the task of slowing down running back Saquon Barkley. The Packers’ defense on the backend is going to need to be retooled once the season comes to an end.
Green Bay Packers Select Cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. In the Latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft
There is no doubt that the Green Bay Packers will be linked to selecting different cornerbacks leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft. Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports created his latest NFL mock draft. He has the Packers selecting 24th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Wilson has Green Bay taking cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. from the East Carolina Pirates with that selection. Ryan Wilson said of this selection:
“Shavon Revel tore his ACL in October, and he hasn’t played since. But his tape is a lot of fun; his track background shows up on tape, as does his length. He’ll play with physicality at the line in man coverage and is a fluid mover in space. He’s not the shutdown corner of, say, Sauce Gardner when he came out, or as physical as Joey Porter Jr. (and maybe that’s a good thing), but he’s a nice mix of both in terms of size and play style.”
The Green Bay Packers probably want to stay away from cornerbacks who were injured during the college football season. Green Bay had to deal with injuries with Jaire Alexander over the last couple of years and Eric Stokes has also been injured in recent seasons.
Shavon Revel Jr. had eight tackles and two interceptions, along with one touchdown and two pass deflections before he was injured. Revel Jr. is 6’3″ and weighs 193 lbs.
Scouting Reports
Nfldraftbuzz.com created scouting reports for Shavon Revel Jr. The strengths of his scouting report are as follows:
“Exceptional length and frame at 6’3″ allow him to disrupt passing lanes and match up with bigger receivers, elite straight-line speed (4.40 40-yard dash) to carry vertical routes and recover when beaten, fluid hips and change of direction skills to mirror receivers in man coverage, and high-level ball skills, as evidenced by his 12 pass breakups in 2023.”
Had he stayed healthy in 2024, Revel Jr. was on track to have a big college football season with East Carolina. It would be a huge risk for the Green Bay Packers to draft him. Some of the weaknesses are as follows:
“Only one year of high-level production as a starter, raising questions about consistency and can be overaggressive in coverage, leading to penalties and big plays allowed.”
The Green Bay Packers defense wants their defensive backs to be aggressive and Revel Jr. is someone that defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley would sign up for. Maybe Revel Jr. would fit the scheme, but general manager Brian Gutekunst can’t afford to draft injury-prone players.
