Many fantasy football owners thought that Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson was going to be the main target in the offense last season. It did not go as planned with all of the hamstring injuries he had, which caused him to miss eight games last season.
There is still some hope for Christian Watson to turn things around in his third NFL season. He caught 28 passes for 422 yards receiving and five touchdowns, along with averaging 15.1 yards per catch. Watson was targeted 53 times last season.
For this year, he will be with the first unit of wide receivers along with Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs, but Dontayvion Wicks will also be in the mix. At the moment, there is no true number-one wide receiver in Green Bay’s offense.
Pro Football Network Makes a Bold Prediction About Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Christian Watson For the 2024 Fantasy Football Season
Pro Football Network’s Jason Katz wrote an article about making a bold fantasy football prediction for each NFL team entering the 2024 season. For Green Bay, Katz thinks that Watson will stay healthy this season and finish as the top wide receiver on the Packers roster this season. Jason Katz said:
“My favorite archetype of receiver to invest in is the sophomore receiver coming off a very efficient rookie year. That led me to Drake London and Christian Watson last season. It didn’t work out.
What if I was just a year early? There’s a reason Watson was highly touted last season. He averaged 11.7 fantasy points per game as a rookie on limited volume.
Last season, Watson averaged 11.3 PPG. He wasn’t much worse, and he just couldn’t stay healthy. We’ve since found out the root cause of the issue — asymmetry with his hamstrings.
Jordan Love has emerged as one of the better QBs in the league. Say he takes another step forward while Watson stays healthy, and the two develop a strong rapport and Watson establishes himself as the Packers’ top receiver. Catching 70 passes for 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns puts him in contention to be a WR1 and is within the range of outcomes.”
This feels like an extremely bold prediction for the third-year wide receiver from North Dakota State. If Watson does put up those kinds of numbers, it means that Jordan Love could very well be an MVP finalist.
However, there will be a Green Bay Packers wide receiver who will finish over 1,000 yards this season but it won’t be Watson. It will either be Jayden Reed or Romeo Doubs.
