Green Bay Packers safety Evan Williams has been a star on defense in training camp. Williams is a rookie from Oregon and was a fourth-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. He has been competing with Javon Bullard for one of the starting spots in the safety position.
Xavier McKinney will be one of the starting safeties for the Packers this season. On Friday, Green Bay will face the Denver Broncos in a joint practice on Friday and in a preseason game on Sunday night. One of the players to watch for on the Broncos offense will be rookie quarterback Bo Nix.
Nix was the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Oregon by the Denver Broncos. He is currently in a starting quarterback competition with Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. Bo Nix did not start in the last game against the Indianapolis Colts, but he did make an impact in the game.
Green Bay Packers Safety Evan Williams Talks About Facing Former College Teammate Bo Nix In Practice
A season ago with the Oregon Ducks, Evan Williams faced Bo Nix many times in practice. During training camp, Williams has recorded four interceptions. Matt Schneidman of The Athletic asked him how many times did he pick off Nix during practice back in college. Williams laughed at the question he asked and responded:
“That’s a good question. I honestly couldn’t tell you an exact number. I’d probably say more than one … we’ve had some good rivalries in practice always going against each other.”
Evan Williams also called Bo Nix one of his good friends. In 13 games last season with the Ducks, he recorded 82 total tackles, 5.0 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, zero interceptions, two pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. Williams did make an impact last season with the Ducks and hopes to make an impact with the Green Bay Packers this season.
It will be interesting to see whether or not Williams will pick off his former teammate either on Friday or Sunday. This will be good for both the Packers and the Broncos to see where they are at before the 2024 season begins. Green Bay and Denver met in the regular season last year with the Broncos coming out on top.
