One of the biggest questions surrounding the Green Bay Packers going into the 2024 NFL season is whether or not their kicker situation will be any better than it was last year. After the 2022 season ended, the Packers decided not to re-sign kicker Mason Crosby, the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, and instead drafted Anders Carlson in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
In his lone season with the Packers, Carlson made 81.8% of his field goals and a pitiful 87.2% of his extra point attempts. At one point, he missed at least one kick in 10 of 12 games, including Green Bay’s two NFL Playoff games against the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers.
The Green Bay Packers Signed Greg Joseph to Compete with Anders Carlson This Offseason
Due to Carlson’s disappointing 2023 season, the Packers decided that bringing in more kickers to compete for the starting job would help improve the position as a whole. The most noteworthy of these players was former Minnesota Vikings kicker Greg Joseph.
Last season, Joseph made 80% of his field goal attempts and 94.7% of his extra point attempts.
Throughout Green Bay’s training camp, it appeared as if both Carlson and Joseph had the upper hand at various points of the competition. However, Green Bay released Carlson on Tuesday while keeping Joseph on their initial 53-man roster.
As everyone is well aware, though, 53-man rosters can change quickly.
The Green Bay Packers Signed former Tennessee Titans Kicker Brayden Narveson and Released Greg Joseph
On Wednesday morning, it was reported that the Packers had been awarded kicker Brayden Narveson off of waivers from the Tennessee Titans, the same team from which Green Bay acquired Malik Willis, their new backup quarterback.
#Packers have claimed #Titans K Brayden Narveson, who hit 6 of 7 field goal attempts during the preseason, including one from 59 yards. Not certain yet whether he’ll kick against Joseph this week or replaces Joseph on the 53. https://t.co/sTyDg2CRtl

As Tom Silverstein notes above, Narveson made six of seven field goal attempts during Titans preseason games. His only miss came from 58 yards out.
Narveson played five college seasons at Iowa State, Western Kentucky, and North Carolina State. For his college career, he made 78.0% of his field goals and 100% of his extra points.
As a result of the Narveson signing, Joseph was released.
