When the Green Bay Packers drafted running back Marshawn Lloyd in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, they envisioned that he would compete for the backup role behind Josh Jacobs on their roster. Unfortunately, Lloyd suffered numerous injuries in his first NFL training camp, which caused him to miss the first game of the season.
And while he returned for the second game of the season, he suffered yet another injury that landed him on injured reserve. This was not supposed to keep him out for the season, but just as he was about to return, he needed an emergency appendectomy and was out for the rest of the year.
2025, though, was supposed to be different. Healthy and hungry, Lloyd was determined to earn the role the Packers envisioned for him. Unfortunately, it sounds like he might be on the shelf for a while again.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Marshawn Lloyd Was Injured During Practice, Nate Hobbs Involved

On Monday, the Packers held their first practice in pads of training camp. During one play, newly signed cornerback Nate Hobbs, who has been chastised by head coach Matt LaFleur for being too physical with his own teammates during drills, hit Lloyd low.
Lloyd limped off the field and Hobbs was benched the rest of the series.
Hobbs later returned to practice, but Lloyd remained on the sidelines for the rest of the day.
Fans were divided on how to feel about the play. Some felt that Hobbs is being too reckless while others appreciate the edge that he has brought to the defense.
The reality, though, is that the new Packers cornerback needs to find a balance in practice and not put his teammates in harm’s way while also staying aggressive.
It Sounds Like Green Bay Packers Running Back Marshawn Lloyd May Be Out a While

On Monday, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst addressed the media concerning Lloyd’s injury and Hobbs’ demeanor in practice. He stated that the injury, though it appeared to have been caused by Hobbs at first, was not a result of the hit.
Brian Gutekunst says MarShawn Lloyd’s injury was not caused by Nate Hobbs’ hit in practice yesterday and that Lloyd hurt something earlier in that run. Should know more today.

As Matt Schneidman notes above, it sounds like Lloyd tweaked something in his leg prior to the hit. This caused him to get lower than he probably would have, which resulted in Hobbs going even lower to hit him.
While the Packers have not released the nature of the injury, it does not sound good for the second-year running back with just six career carries for 15 yards to his name.
If Lloyd misses time again, the backup job will presumably belong to Emanuel Wilson again, who had 502 rushing yards and four touchdowns last season.
